"You can be in charge of the bike kit."

"So, I was in California, and I was working in a software company in the automotive industry. We had a team building exercise, where the whole day we were going to be building bikes and bike kits. So they chose your teams, you could not work with people that you knew or from your same department, so I ended up being with the sales people. I was in data analysis and they were in sales. And, it's an automotive industry so most of them are guys. I didn't know them because they were always out and about.

So, I go up to them and introduce myself and all of them are guys, and one of them comes up to me and tells me, 'you know, uh, I think you should let the guys work on the bike, and you can be in charge of the bike kit.' I was like, 'but WHY?!' And he was like, 'well, I mean, that's just how it should be—like, all us guys, we can just get dirty and like, build it, while you can just be sitting there and just be in charge of the bike kit.' (Laughs) and I got pissed. I was like, 'you know what? My hands and my brain work the same as yours.' And he was like, 'oh no no!' like he was trying to fix it, and everybody was so quiet—they could see that I was really upset. So then I said, 'why don't you do the bike kit, and the bike, and I'm just gonna go to HR.' And I left."
